Why does my washing machine smell?

The rubber band on the inside of the machine (the gasket) can create the perfect environment for mould growth, which is the most likely cause of a smelly washing machine. Giving it a good clean with an over-the-counter mould spray or some diluted white vinegar should do the trick.
